Healthy environment, healthy youth

Stereotypes, biases, discrimination. We are all familiar with those three words. Every day we live in more and more diverse environments and cultures, which makes it even more difficult to comprehend all information. Sometimes we are not aware of the burden of our words and deeds, and even though we do not want to hurt others, an apparently harmless joke, an uncontrolled gaze or a misguided sentence can hurt another person. Media also take part in the phenomenon of discrimination. That is one of the reasons why Associazione Vele Corsare decided to implement international project which aims to turn this phenomenon upside down and thus deploy the use of the media as a tool against discrimination!

11 organizations from 11 different countries will participate in the training project: Italy, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia . Each partner country will be represented by three people.

Project’s reference number:

2021-1-IT03-KA153-YOU-000011438

Duration of the project:

19.09.2022 – 27.10.2022

Activities that will be taken in the training:

– two-day long preparatory meeting in Italy (19 – 22.09.2022 r.)
– nine-day long training in Italy (in which 11 European organizations will participate) during which participants will take part in:
1. Spreading awareness of culture, cultural differences and cultural identity among training participants.
2. Raising awareness of the susceptibility of people within a given culture to stereotypes, prejudices and, as a result, to discrimination against others.
3. Emphasizing the importance of the media and its impact on our feelings and prejudices.
4. Improving competences such as using new technologies to combat discrimination.
5. Training in using the media as a tool against discrimination.
6. Building collaboration between organizations and joint creation of future project activities.

What are we doing during the training:

– we learn how our own cultural conditions affect our relationships with people from different cultures and backgrounds;
– we meet people from cultures we are not familiar with;
– we acquire knowledge how to use new media and technologies in order to fight discrimination;
– we learn how to prepare and create jokes, short movies and anti-discrimination advertisements;
– we create new, international relationships.
