For the Art enthusiasts
The Muzeum Sztuki, or Art Museum, of Łódź is one of the oldest museums of modern art in the world. Located in one of the city’s beautiful palaces, MS1, first branch of the museum, houses the Neoplastic Room, created in 1948 by Strzemiński—a geometric, color-blocked haven for Constructivist art that still anchors the Museum’s avant-garde art identity. Beyond that, you will find dynamic temporary exhibitions, experimental film and performance projects, workshops, and educational programs in this stunning building.
MS2 is a transformation of a 19th-century weaving mill into a sprawling modern art hub. Here, 20th- and 21st-century collections through thematic, non-chronological narratives might resonate with you in a different way. It’s a constantly evolving presentation where works are not static relics, but living events.
Willa Gallery, one of the city’s galleries, is a must-see not only because it’s the continuity of Łódź’s modern art essence, but because the building itself is a stunning specimen of Art Nouveau architecture. The incredible stained glass windows, facade ornaments and nature-themed motives are so typical of this design movement that this house might be one of the jewels of this early 20th century aesthetic.
And if by now you’re ready for a change of scenery, Łódź still has a few surprises up its sleeve — from science and stars to playful, one-of-a-kind experiences.
If you’re looking for something different
EC1 Science Museum and Planetarium
If you love science and hands-on exploration, EC1 Science and Technology Centre is a must. Housed in a former power station, it turns complex ideas into fun, interactive experiences—from the secrets of energy and human inventions to the tiniest microstructures and the vastness of the cosmos.
Right next door, the Planetarium EC1 is just as impressive: under a huge 14 m dome with 8K visuals and surround sound, you can lose yourself among the stars, constellations, and space-themed shows. It’s the kind of place that makes both kids and adults feel like curious explorers discovering the universe for the first time.
Archeology and Ethnography Museum
Currently under renovations, the main building will be accessible again eventually. In the meantime, you can still check their room dedicated to temporary exhibitions, like the current display of African masks.
This museum usually gives you an even older insight of the region, showcasing artefacts sometimes dating back to the Roman or Middle-Ages periods and focusing on the local folk culture.
Museum of Independence Traditions and Radegast Station
For those wanting to connect with the city’s more difficult chapters, two places stand out. Radegast Station, once a departure point for thousands of Jewish residents sent to extermination camps, is now a moving memorial that preserves the memory of the Łódź Ghetto. Its quiet, heavy atmosphere makes it one of the most powerful sites to visit in the city.
The Independence Traditions Museum, on the other hand, focuses on Poland’s struggles and resistance movements from the 19th century up through World War II. Through personal stories, documents, and artefacts, it sheds light on how Łódź’s residents lived — and resisted — in times of occupation and upheaval.
Muzeum Światła
Tucked away at Piotrkowska 17, this is Poland’s first museum devoted entirely to light — and it doesn’t just ask you to look, it invites you to play. Imagine wandering through ten themed rooms—each one a visual trap waiting to happen. We’re talking inverted rooms where your perspective flips, mirror halls that stretch you into infinity, neon tunnels, TikTok rooms straight from your feed, laser installations, fossil-‘90s arcade games, and glow-in-the-dark painting zones. It’s more than a museum—it’s a mood, perfect for families, friends groups, or anyone craving a creative break from the ordinary.
Łódź is a city that reinvents itself in the most unexpected ways: weaving its industrial past into modern creativity, turning villas into galleries, and power stations into science playgrounds. It’s not the obvious destination — and that’s exactly what makes it worth the trip. Come curious, and the museums of Łódź will do the rest.
