Global Word = Global Issues
The “Global Word = Global Issues” project aims to improve the quality of work with youth through development of youth workers’ competencies in addressing global and social issues. The initiative focuses on issues such as climate change, global inequality, migration, and poverty, as well as contemporary European challenges, including war in Ukraine, protests in Georgia and growing political tensions. Youth workers, educators, and youth organisations representatives develop their competencies through non-formal education, workshops, study visit and an international training. The project encourages critical thinking, empathy, dialogue and appropriate intercultural social action. An additional goal of the project is to strengthen the youth workers’ well-being by promoting methods of preventing professional burnout, supporting mental health and creating a safe space to discuss difficult topics.
Actions to be undertaken in the project:
- Study visit in Czechia with representatives of partner organisations from Czechia, Poland, North Macedonia, Latvia, Georgia, Armenia and Ukraine. The aim of the study visit will be learning good practices in youth work and including global topics in educational, social and civil actions. Participants:
- Participants will take part in workshops and meetings with experts.
- They will visit local organisations from Olomouc and Přerov to see their approach toward ecological education, social inclusion and the development of global awareness.
- They will share their thoughts on methods of working in the youth environment and ways to create a safe space for difficult conversations.
- They will begin developing local action plans, which will be implemented in the coming months of the project.
- Training in Georgia — the second part of the project will be training and workshop-based and will focus on the practical implementation of methods of working with young people on global issues. The participants will further develop their ideas created in Czechia, reshaping them into specific tools, programs and actions ready to be taken in their local communities. During the training:
- There will be workshops and sessions of experience exchange.
- The participants will work on local action plans and campaigns focused on global challenges.
- They will create recommendations and methodological resources for youth organisations, supporting the inclusion of global issues in their work.
- There will be sessions of good practices exchange and networking, aiming to create a permanent network of cooperation between organisations.
What we do during the project:
- We focus on developing competencies of youth workers in including global topics in their daily educational, social and formative work.
- We raise awareness on global challenges of the contemporary world, such as climate change, migration, social inequality and armed conflicts, and we learn how to efficiently transfer these topics into local actions that encourage the youth.
- We improve our skills in working with young people on sensitive social issues. The participants learn methods for creating a safe, supportive space for dialogue where young people can freely express their opinions, learn critical thinking and empathy towards others.
- We develop competencies in non-formal education and project management. We learn how to plan, organise and lead actions concerning global issues: from educational workshops and local campaigns to long-term organisational strategies.
- We exchange experiences and good practices between partner organisations from Central and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, analysing different approaches to youth work in the context of global issues.
- We create tools and recommendations for the youth sector, supporting well-being, mental health and prevention of the youth workers’ professional burnout.
- We build a network of youth workers and educators who disseminate knowledge on global issues in their local environment through joint actions, publications, blogs, videos and workshops.
- We strengthen the intercultural dialogue and solidarity; by working in multicultural teams, we learn how to cooperate across borders, discover different perspectives and build shared responsibility for the future of our planet.
